We all believe we make our own decisions. There comes a time though, when you doubt if that thought is really yours.
That happened to me.
I recently sat down and did a review of all the voices that I was watching and reading. It was time to assess where I was spending my time getting information. The people I follow on social media, the podcasts that I listened to, the people whose work I read.
It was important to me to do so because all these voices have been shaping my thoughts on investing and business. My views on the economy, tariffs, politics and many other things.
As I stepped back, I realized that much of what I was consuming through reading and listening was influencing my decisions.
It turned out I had to remove some from my daily and weekly consumption.
When is the last time that you asked yourself, who am I listening to?
Your outlook is a mirror of the voices you're tuning into.
Your mindset, strategy, and even your risk tolerance are shaped by the voices you allow to influence you.
For instance, fear mongers who stoke fear about the stock market. If you're constantly hearing "the market is about to crash," you're less likely to invest. Even when times are good.
Who you listen to about stocks will influence what stocks you buy or short.
Who you listen to about the stock market will affect how you view and invest in the stock market.
Who you listen to will affect what your view on tariffs is.
Who you listen to about the economy, will affect your view on the economy.
Who you listen to about politics, will influence how you vote, or what political party you support.
Who you listen to at your job, will influence your view on the company you work for.
Do you see where I’m going? Who you listen to can affect how you view most everything.
Your opinions are directly influenced by those who you're listening to. It could be who you follow on social media. The podcast you’re listening to. The TV station or YouTube channel that you watch. The writing that you’re reading.
Who you listen to, are who you follow. You get attached and influenced by their thoughts and views. Influence is powerful. Audit that influence regularly.
The sooner you understand who you’re listening to affects and shapes your view on things, the smarter you’ll be.
Objectivity is missing today in a world full of tribalism.
Choose who you listen to and read carefully. They’re having more influence on you than you realize.

My NFL Draft Experience
Many of you reached out about my attending the draft at Lambeau Field last week. I had wanted to attend a NFL Draft for many years. When I heard it would be at Lambeau Field, which is 40 minutes from my house, I knew I would go.
On Thursday, the opening night I went with some friends. We were there right when the grounds opened. We checked out everything before the crowd of all 205,000 got there. Then it was crammed and just too busy. We had a lot of fun.
Then on Saturday I took my son and my parents. There was an area for kids where they could sign up and spend a half hour with coaches doing football activities on a football field. It was a blast. After my son got done he wanted to do it again. Experiencing it with my parents and son made it just an awesome day.
If you’re an NFL fan, you have to go to a NFL Draft once in your life. It’s laid back and fun because no actual game is going on. That was evident as there was only 1 arrest from the 605,000 total people whom attended.
There was a lot of talking with other teams fans. I was a Buffalo Bills fan surrounded by about 95% Green Bay Packers fans. The other 5% was a mix of all the rest of the NFL teams. I was surprised by how many other Bills fans were there. Every team had fans there. I know because we looked for every team.
You talked football with all the fans. Many asked where you were from and when they heard WI, they asked how I became a Bills fan. A lot of fun conversations and it’s something I would definitely go to again. I hope you get to experience a NFL Draft for yourself.
