Every year people make New Year’s resolutions and try to stick to them. But then every year we hear how many end in failure.
According to US News & World Report over 80% of New Year’s resolutions end by the second week of February.
What is the last New Year resolution that you stuck with and achieved? Or have you just quit making them because they always fizzle out and you don’t stick to it?
It’s time we adjust our mindset on New Years resolutions. Think of them as goals for yourself. People seem fine breaking resolutions, yet don’t want to fail at goals they’ve set for themselves.
The truth is with a New Year starting it’s time for a fresh start. The ship of 2021 has sailed. It’s gone! You’re back at zero along with everyone else. Everything resets. Set Goals!
New Year = New Opportunity & New Goals
What’s your 2022 going be? What are you going to do with this clear fresh slate? Something on your bucket list? Is there something you’ve always wanted to get done but keep putting it off? Quit waiting! You’re not getting any younger, nor is your spouse and/or kids.
Try setting one or two goals that you really want to obtain in 2022. Don’t be setting any more than that. One of the reasons most fail at their New Year goals are because they make too damn many of them! Select one or two things that you want to crush in the coming year. Don’t be too vague and make sure they’re realistic to do. Sticking to this plan will allow you to be able operate with laser focus and motivate you to achieve them.
The first step in putting a plan together for how you’re going to achieve your goal(s) is to see how you can change or adjust your schedule to commit the time to achieving your goal. I covered scheduling in my past post below. Start your plan with this.
My two personal goals for 2022 are:
To set a new PR (personal record) on my Peloton bike. My best finish was on halloween for the annual halloween ride. Since then I have yet to even sniff that level of performance. Probably would help if I cut back on the Christmas cookies.
Get my book finished up and in the first draft stage so I can turn it over to an editor. Right now it’s written but in a very rough draft stage. Yes I’m procrastinating and just need to dedicate the time and get it done.
Feel free to share your goal(s) by commenting below, email me at spilledcoffee@substack.com or reach out on Twitter.
Share your goals with your friends. Help motivate and push your friends. You’re all friends of mine so that’s why I’m sharing my goals with you. Now you can push me! I want to do the same with you. Let’s crush our New Year goals together.
Here is to a great 2022! 🍻
